Above are several shots of my favorite Australian mammal, the Numbat.  Its range is now restricted to several tiny sites in southern Western Australia. These shots were taken at Dryandra Woodland where this species is doing pretty well, thanks to anti-fox measures. The Numbat feeds almost exclusively in ants which it slurps up with its long, slender tongue (see directly above).  Photos © Chris Benesh
